HYDROTHERAPY FAQ

Hydrotherapy is a form of rehabilitation performed in a warm water pool designed to reduce pain, improve movement, and support recovery.
No — hydrotherapy is done in shallow water with full supervision.

Yes. Adelaide Active offers casual hydrotherapy pool access for independent exercise, as well as supervised hydrotherapy sessions with clinicians.

AGED CARE FAQ

In-home Exercise Physiology involves an accredited Exercise Physiologist (EP) visiting a client’s home to deliver individualised, safe, and evidence-based exercise programs.

These services are designed to help older adults maintain or improve:

  • Strength
  • Mobility
  • Balance
  • Falls prevention capacity
  • Functional independence
  • Confidence with movement

Our in-home services are ideal for:

  • Older adults with mobility limitations
  • Clients at risk of falls
  • Individuals living with chronic conditions (e.g. arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular conditions)
  • Clients recently discharged from hospital
  • Individuals who prefer to exercise at home
  • Clients with transport limitations

Our EPs travel approximately 10–15 minutes from our Welland facility, allowing us to maintain service quality and scheduling efficiency.

The initial in-home consultation runs for approximately 60 minutes in person and includes:

  • Comprehensive assessment
  • Functional capacity evaluation
  • Falls risk screening (if applicable)
  • Review of medical history and medications
  • Goal setting
  • Development of an individualised exercise plan
  • Commencement of guided exercises

We ensure the program is appropriate for the home environment and any equipment available.

Subsequent in-home consultations run for approximately 30 minutes in person and include:

  • Supervised exercise
  • Program progression
  • Monitoring safety and technique
  • Adjustments based on presentation
  • Ongoing functional progression
Our in-home aged care Exercise Physiology fees are as follows:
  • Initial Consultation (100 minutes, includes travel) – $200.00
  • Subsequent Consultation (50 minutes, includes travel) – $157.00
We are happy to work collaboratively with care coordinators and package providers to ensure services align with each client’s goals and funding arrangements.

Minimal space is needed.

We can utilise:

  • Chairs
  • Benches

  • Stairs
  • Bodyweight exercises

In addition, our Exercise Physiologists will bring portable equipment as required

Funding & Referrals FAQ

Understanding referrals, funding, and eligibility

Different funding pathways have different requirements for accessing physiotherapy, exercise physiology, hydrotherapy, and allied health services.

Below is a general guide to common funding options used at Adelaide Active. If you are unsure which option applies to you or your family member, our team is happy to help guide you.

Private Clients

No referral is usually required to book services privately at Adelaide Active.

Clients can contact us directly to access Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Hydrotherapy, rehabilitation services, and other allied health supports.
Depending on your level of cover, you may be able to claim eligible services through your private health fund. We recommend checking directly with your insurer regarding your individual cover, rebates, and annual limits.

Medicare

Yes. To access eligible Medicare rebates for allied health services, you will generally require a referral and care plan from your GP.

This may include:

  • Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plans
  • Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referrals
  • Other eligible Medicare pathways

Medicare rebates contribute towards the cost of therapy sessions but may not cover the full appointment fee. Any out-of-pocket costs will be explained before your appointment.

In some cases, hydrotherapy may be included as part of an eligible treatment plan under your referring practitioner and therapist recommendations. A valid GP referral is generally required to claim Medicare rebates. Where hydrotherapy is delivered by a registered Allied Health Practitioner who is covered by your Medicare referral, you will receive a Medicare benefit for the treatment. No benefit is available for fitness classes or casual swims.

NDIS

Yes. Adelaide Active supports eligible NDIS participants across a range of therapy and rehabilitation services.

Yes. To use NDIS funding, participants must have an active NDIS plan with available funding relevant to the supports being accessed.

Yes. Adelaide Active supports both self-managed and plan-managed participants. If you are unsure how your funding works, our team can help explain the process.

Yes. Some clients choose to access services privately while awaiting plan approval or funding decisions.

DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs)

Yes. Eligible DVA clients generally require a valid GP referral to access allied health services under DVA funding arrangements.
Depending on eligibility and referral type, DVA clients may be able to access services including Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Hydrotherapy, and rehabilitation support.
Please bring your referral information and relevant DVA details so our team can assist with processing and eligibility requirements.

Support at Home / Home Care Packages

In many cases, yes. Access depends on approval through your package provider and the supports available within your funding arrangement.
Yes. Clients using Support at Home or Home Care Package funding generally require approval from their package provider before services can commence.
Clients may access services such as Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy and Allied Health Asssitant led programs for falls prevention, mobility support, strength and balance, and Hydrotherapy where appropriate.

Hydrotherapy

Private hydrotherapy services may not require a referral. However, funding pathways such as Medicare, DVA, NDIS, or Support at Home may require GP documentation, approval, or supporting paperwork before services begin.
Hydrotherapy suitability depends on your individual health needs, goals, and medical history. Our clinicians will assess whether hydrotherapy is appropriate and safe for you before commencing treatment.

WorkCover & Compensable Clients

Yes. Adelaide Active may support eligible clients under approved compensable funding pathways, depending claim approval status.
Please contact our team with your claim details, and insurer approvals where applicable.
